The Mavericks were ecstatic when drafting Rodrigue Beaubois is June's draft, but instead of waiting till training camp to work on him; why don't they start now?

They did and Beubois is enrolled in Mavericks University. Been in existence since 2009.

Beubois has been through 30 minute filming sessions, hour-long workouts, and strength and conditioning drills which will continue till the start of training camp on September 29.

Sometimes Mathis will let Roddy be the coach choose which drill to do next.

Beaubois has also added weight during his time in the University that will make him more prepared for the physicality of the NBA.

Mavs assistant Monte Mathis is coaching Beaubois with the goal to be a contributor right away for the team. He is still behind Kidd and Barea in the point guard spot, but he will get a chance to show off his speed and skill.

The main thing Beaubois needs to learn is consistency. On one passing drill, Mathis set a pick for Rodrigue and the ball flies out to the stand after a failed behind the back pass.

It's good that this is corrected now, instead during the season, in which a mistake like that from a rookie, would lead to the end of the bench.

But Beaubois wasn't the only one in the gym. Veteran center Erick Dampier is also seen shooting jumpers. Perhaps all this trade discussion involving him has got him determined to prove the nay sayers wrong.

It will be exciting to see the new look Mavs and speedy rookie Rodrigue Beaubois show the NBA that they are still contenders in the west.
