Provided by Written on September 02, 2009

WASHINGTON — D.C. United announced the signing of 18-year-old
goalkeeper Abdul “Bill” Hamid before Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup
Final, making him the first member of D.C.’s youth academy
directly signed by the first team.

Hamid, a native of nearby Annandale, Va., also has experience
with the U18 and U20 United States national teams. He will not
be elidgible for league matches until next season, per MLS
rules, but could be used in other competitions this year, such
as the ongoing CONCACAF Champions Cup.

He joins Josh Wicks and Milos Kocic at the goalkeeping position.
