The regular season is almost upon us, so its time to make some educated predictions as to how the Chargers will do in 2009.

San Diego has a bright future, and with a little luck will make the rest of the country completely miserable, as we celebrate a Super Bowl victory, which will be the ultimate indignity for football fans every where. Step inside...

LaDainian Tomlinson

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - OCTOBER 15: Ladainian Tomlinson #21 of the San Diego Chargers runs with the ball against the San Francisco 49ers at Monster Park October 15, 2006 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images)

LT. All the naysayers had better get ready to eat their words, as LT is healthy, and ready to roll. Tomlinson has been hampered by minor injuries the last two season, as father time takes his toll. LT has set his sights on a world championship this season, records are the last thing on his mind.

Look for LT to lead the NFL in touchdowns and be in the top five running backs for overall yardage.

Phillip Rivers

ATLANTA - AUGUST 29: Quarterback Philip Rivers #17 of the San Diego Chargers argues an intentional grounding call during the game against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome on August 29, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Falcons beat the Chargers 27-24

Rivers has become an elite QB since taking over for Drew Brees, and should continue that ascent during the 2009 season. There are those who believe that Rivers is a bum, and watching them all eat their bile will be most enjoyable.

Phillip is destined for the Hall Of Fame, and will lead the NFL in passer rating once again in 2009.

Darren Sproles

GLENDALE, AZ - AUGUST 22: Running back Darren Sproles #43 of the San Diego Chargers carries the ball for 36 yards in the second quarter during the game against the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium on August 22, 2009 in Glendale, Ar

The fastest man in professional football, Sproles will have a bigger target on his back this season. No matter, as Darren can outrun any defensive player in the NFL.

Sproles will be the Chargers best weapon, giving opposing defensive coordinators fits, as they try to find a way to stop him among all the gigantic players that dominate the NFL. Sproles will score 14 touchdowns this season, and that is a minimum estimate.

Shwane Merrriman

SAN DIEGO - SEPTEMBER 07: Linebacker Shawne Merriman #56 of the San Diego Chargers fights the block of running back DeAngelo Williams #34 of the Carolina Panthers on September 7, 2008 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The Panthers won 26-24.

Merriman has become the favorite target of Charger haters, who call him a roided up has been. Nothing I can think of would motivate number 56 more than that. Look for Shawne to rack up at least 10 sacks, and wreak havoc in the backfield all season long. His play is the key to the Chargers defensive hopes in 2009.

Antonio Cromartie

ORCHARD PARK - OCTOBER 19: Antonio Cromartie #31 of the San Diego Chargers carries the ball during the game against the Buffalo Bills on October 19, 2008 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. (Photo by: Rick Stewart/Getty Images)

Cromartie played the 2008 season with a broken hip, severely limiting his effectiveness. Antonio looks to rebound, and resume his assault on the interception record book. Peg him for at least eight picks, and a couple spectacular returns.

Vincent Jackson

PITTSBURGH - JANUARY 11: Vincent Jackson #83 of the San Diego Chargers attempts to make a play on a pass that was originally called a reception but was over turned on a coaches challenge against the Pittsburgh Steelers during their AFC Divisional Playof

Jackson has quietly become a top 10 receiver in the NFL, and has the size and speed to dominate during the 2009 season. Look for Vincent to haul in 75 passes, and to score at least eight touchdowns.

Antonio Gates

Gates is the best tight end in the NFL. when healthy, no one can cover him one on one. Look for Antonio to score 10 touchdowns, and possible lead the NFL in receptions.

Nate Kaeding

PITTSBURGH - JANUARY 11: Nate Kaeding #10 of the San Diego Chargers kicks a successful 42-yard field goal attempt against the Pittsburgh Steelers during their AFC Divisional Playoff Game on January 11, 2009 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ste

Fantasy football players would be smart to grab Kaeding off the waiver wire, as he led the NFL in extra points in 2008, while cleaning up on the Chargers offensive onslaught. Nate should once again be in the top five kickers, scoring wise during the 2009 season.

Jamal Williams

SAN DIEGO - SEPTEMBER 9: Defensive Tackle Jamal Williams #76 of the San Diego Chargers celebrates the Chicago Bears' turnover on downs during the 4th quarter at Qualcomm Stadium September 9, 2007 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Donald Miralle/Getty

Williams is the best interior lineman in the NFL. His dominating inside play helps cement the Chargers run defense. Jamal is healthy again, after playing last season with one arm. Williams will be a top 10 defender, and should prevent any running back from finding space up the middle against San Diego during 2009.

Overall Prediction

PITTSBURGH - JANUARY 11: Darren Sproles #43 of the San Diego Chargers runs with the ball against Patrick Bailey #55 of the Pittsburgh Steelers during their AFC Divisional Playoff Game on January 11, 2009 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Steele

San Diego must find a way to beat the Steelers, and possibly the Patriots in the playoffs.

Given all the talent that the Chargers have, Norv Turner has to have a world championship on his mind, and anything less for the Chargers will be considered a wasted season. 12-4 is about right, with a divisional sweep.
