HAMPTON,GA - OCTOBER 30 : The #88 UPS Ford of Dale Jarrett carries a new livery with the image of Frankenstein during practice for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 on October 30, 2004 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.

If you were Doctor Frankenstein, how would you build the perfect Safety?

Unlimited by convention, what combination of traits do you use?

Here is how I would put together the perfect beast of a Safety.

Somebody who would be a Youtube sensation.

So feared, that nobody dare attempt a pass in his vicinity.

To paraphrase Jim Croce:
You don't tug on Superman's cape.
You don't spit into the wind.
You don't pull the mask off the Lone Ranger
And you don't go over the middle on HIM!

Speed, speed, speed

EUGENE - OCTOBER 26: Safety Troy Polamalu #43 of the USC Trojans runs on the field during the game against the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium on October 26, 2002 in Eugene, Oregon. USC defeated Oregon 44-33. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

There is an old saying: you can't teach speed.

As players seem to be getting faster and faster, let's build our ideal safety with the speed of five time Pro-bowler Troy Polamalu.

Size and Intimidation

DENVER - SEPTEMBER 13: Safety Dennis Smith #49 of the Denver Broncos runs back an interception during a game against the Seattle Seahawks at Mile High Stadium on September 13, 1987 in Denver, Colorado. The Seahawks won 17-10. (Photo by George Rose/Gett

Let's make this ideal safety tall, 6'3" or better, so he can out leap tall wide outs.

Let's make it muscular, 220 or more, so that he can wrestle big tight ends.

Sort of like six time Pro Bowler Dennis Smith, a guy Baby Tate called one of the most intimidating college football players ever.

Hitting

SAN FRANCISCO - OCTOBER 30: Defenseman Ronnie Lott #42 of the San Francisco 49ers makes a tackle during a NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings at Candlestick Park on October 30, 1988 in San Francisco, California. The Niners defeated the Vikings 24-21.

Next we want the denture rattling, bone crushing hitting ability of 10 time Pro bowler, and HOF member Ronnie Lott.

Education

Then, we'll send this beast off to a school that not only has had several great defensive backs in the past, but one where the Head Coach was also a Defensive Back himself, and coached DBs most of his career.

It's Alive!

LOS ANGELES - SEPTEMBER 1: Taylor Mays #2 of the USC Trojans lines up against the University of Idaho Vandals on September 1, 2007 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. USC won 38-10. (Photo by Jeff Golden/Getty Images)

As fast as Troy Polamalu (actually, faster).

As big as Dennis Smith (actually, bigger)

As fierce as Ronnie Lott.

Trained by the best in the business.

Ladies and gentlemen:

Taylor Mays
