As Bleacher Report's First and Big Ten.com predicted almost a week ago, Iowa running back Jewel Hampton will miss the entire 2009 season with a knee injury.

Coach Kirk Ferentz made the announcement just moments ago in his press conference, as transcribed by Scout.com.

Hampton had suffered the initial injury in the summer and re-aggravated it in an August practice.

He will have surgery, redshirt, and retain three years of eligibility after setting the Hawkeye freshman record for rushing touchdowns in 2008.

Iowa fans were going to miss Shonn Greene in the backfield anyway. Add in the loss of Hampton, and the Hawkeyes' season prospects just dimmed considerably.
