The flow is a main component to any baseball uniform. It expresses individuality, creativity, and a sense of boyish charm. It takes a brave man to rock the flow, opting for it over the generic high and tight or shaved head.

As the summer heat refuses to simmer down, something must be said for these gutsy ballplayers who sacrifice their own comfort in order to maintain their luscious locks for us viewers to admire.

Whether the style can only be fully appreciated when the cap is off, or if the wings come out from under the batting helmet, whether the hair is silky smooth, or a shock of tight curls, each hairstyle should be fully appreciated.

To honor these fabulous flows I have put together a countdown of the most hallowed hair in the big leagues.

No. 10 Colby Rasmus, Cardinals

PHOENIX - APRIL 15: Colby Rasmus #28 of the St. Louis Cardinals waits in the dugout during the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on April 15, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Cardinals defeated the Diamondbacks 12-7. (Photo by Christian

Rasmus' hair shows his youth, but also let's you know he means business.

No. 9 Nick Swisher, Yankees

ANAHEIM, CA - JULY 11: Nick Swisher #33 of the New York Yankees laughs in the dugout before the game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 11, 2009 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

The Swish-hawk. A classic. This hair style tells you that Swish is fun-loving and all about having a good time while on the field.

No. 8 Brian Wilson, Giants

Close to the Swish-hawk, but slightly more intense. This intensity can be seen not only in his awesome hair, but when he's on the mound.

No. 7 Travis Buck, A's

PEORIA, AZ - MARCH 07: Travis Buck #6 of the Oakland Athletics sits in the dugout before the spring training game against the San Diego Padres at Peoria Stadium on March 7, 2009 in Peoria, Arizona (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

This hair shows the laid back California side of Travis Buck. Nothing says Cali like long, bleach blonde flow.

No. 6 Cole Hamels, Phillies

LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 06: Cole Hamels #35 of the Philadelphia Phillies looks on during the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on June 6, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers defeated the Phillies 3-2 in 12 innings. (Photo by

This hair pronounces "I am a champion". It's smooth, silky, and luxurious. Who wouldn't want an arm or head of hair like Cole Hamels?

No. 5 Bronson Arroyo, Reds

SARASOTA, FL - FEBRUARY 22: Bronson Arroyo of the Cincinnati Reds poses for a portrait during the spring training photo day on February 22, 2008 at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida. (Photo by Robert Laberge/Getty Images)

Fun, and a little wild. Just like Bronson.

No. 4 Jarrod Saltalamacchia

ANAHEIM, CA - JULY 07: Jarrod Saltalamacchia #21 of the Texas Rangers takes batting practice prior to the game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium on July 7, 2009 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Salty's frizz is a little different from the other lock's on this list. Curly and course, this hairstyle is momentous, and hard to miss.

No. 3 Ian Kinsler, Rangers

PHOENIX - JUNE 23: Ian Kinsler #5 of the Texas Rangers looks on from the dugout during the major league baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on June 23, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Diamondbacks defeated the Rangers 8-2. (Photo

Thick and shiny, this flow emphasizes Ian's classic style.

No. 2 Ryan Theriot, Cubs

LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 22: Ryan Theriot #2 of the Chicago Cubs stands at home plate against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on August 22, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers defeated the Cubs 2-0. (Photo by Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

The Riot's hair epitomizes the classic "wings" flow. Visible even under the batting helmet his hair is perfect.

No. 1 Tim Lincecum, Giants

SAN FRANCISCO - AUGUST 26: Tim Lincecum #55 of the San Francisco Giants takes batting practice before their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park on August 26, 2009 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images for Reebok)

Just look at that hair! What man, or woman for that matter, wouldn't want those luxurious locks! Not only does The Freak have the hair, but he has the stuff to back it up.
