Chelsea captain John Terry has signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The England captain was the subject of interest from Manchester City in the summer, with rumours circulating that Mark Hughes' side made a £40 million offer for Terry.

But last month the defender, who has made over 400 appearances for the club since making his debut in 1998, reaffirmed his commitment to the club.

A statement on Chelsea's official web site read:

"Chelsea is delighted to confirm that John Terry has signed a new five-year contract that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2013-14 season.

"This reaffirms both John's and Chelsea's long stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his playing career."

Terry's wages are reported to be in the region of £150,000 a week.

He has played every minute of the Blues' season so far, helping them to the top of the Premier League table.
