Who'll Be #1?

There is still an on-going debate between who will be the number one pick in this year's NBA Draft. Will it be the uber-talented Michael Beasley or the hometown favorite, Derrick Rose?

NBA, NBA Central, Chicago Bulls, NBA Draft, Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Editorial, Editorial, Preview/Prediction, Breaking News, 2008 NBA Draft

When I finally woke up a few hours ago, a funny message welcomed me in Lottery Day. It said "BULLS FTW!!!" Nice one! Even though I was rooting for the Knicks, seeing how all the frustration the Bulls went through this season finally dissipated in a single snap, I was happy as I could've been if NY won the lottery.

Anyway, I'll get to the point and give you the lowdown on these two players as to see who is the better fit for the Chicago ballclub.

Derrick Rose
    6'3", 190lbs
Strengths:
   -An athletic freak! <-click it!
-Excellent height and strength for a PG
-Can handles the ball exceptionally with either hand
   -Excels at an up-tempo game
-Also does well in dribble-drive offensive plays
   -Sees plays before they happen
-Has potential in the defensive end of the floor

Weaknesses:
-Sometimes gets confused in half-court sets
   -Mid-range and perimeter shooting ability
   -May dribble too much
-More of a raw prospect than a polished one
Totally Random Trivia:
Once ate Gummi bears for lunch during tournament day
Best Case Scenario: Jason Kidd + Baron Davis Combo
Worst Case Scenario: Devin Harris

Michael Beasley

   6'9", 235 lbs.

Strengths:
    -Stoudemire-esque athleticism
    -Ambidextrous
    -Huge hands and feet
    -Killer scoring instincts
    -Inside/Outside game
    -Rebounding mentality
    -Ball-handling
    -Freakishly efficient

Weaknesses:
   -Defensively a 3
   -Lacks size for a 4
   -Focus
   -Team Play

Totally Random Trivia:

Wore a Spongebob hat during a Dunk contest

Best Case Scenario: Amare-Post, Jamision-Range, Rodman-Rebounding

Worst Case Scenario: Just another 20-10 player/ Derrick Coleman/ A leaner Zach Randolph

Analysis: When I look at the Bulls roster, I honestly wonder why they never made it to the playoffs this season. But with them winning this year's lottery, I guess that means nothing now because they have a chance to pick between two potential franchise players.

If they pick Derrick Rose, the Bulls will have a PG conundrum similar to the one in Toronto. And with that, they will have to ship Kirk to another team and they will have to get an offensive-oriented forward that will fill up some holes in their frontcourt.

When I look at the league's "up-for-sale" forwards, we have Carmelo Anthony, Zach Randolph, Eddy Curry and Elton Brand—all of which don't fit the now athletic and garbage-picking Bulls. If they want to go through with it anyway, they have to come up with a package deal that also includes Larry Hughes and Jannero Pargo, because the former is inefficient and the latter is attractive for teams who want a player with an expiring contract . (ahem, Knicks?) I hope they can pull that off if they pick Rose. When they choose Beasley, on the other hand, he fits perfectly into the system and gives the team a go-to guy on the offensive end. A front-court of Thomas-Noah-Beasley will be a rebounder's nightmare. B-Easy is also the anti-Noah. What Joakim lacks, Michael excels at and vice-versa. So what we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a wonderful painting of post offense and defense, with some random bruises from the opponent here and there. So to speak, Beasley should be number 1. (And it wouldn't me much of a hassle. They now only have to ship Gooden)

Okay, time to buy a Bulls' #30 jersey.

  1. Seeing as how Rose is from Chicago, I believe the Bulls will take the Memphis guard. Beasley then goes to Miami to join D-Wade and The Matrix.
