NBA Hopefulls Forced into College Career?
I think it's a huge mistake and useless to force high school players to go to college for at least one year before entering the NBA draft.
Yes school is important, but if you are good enough for an NBA team to draft you then you should be allowed to work. When you are 18 you are legal and should have a right to earn a living.
The problem is a lot of these high-schoolers think they're good enough for the NBA. But, the fact is most of them need to develop in college for a few years.
I heard a sports analyst with an idea that I thought made sense. I'm not sure how he described it, but what it came down to was this; if a player is good enough to be drafted, fine, but if he's not, then he must attend a college for at least three years before entering the draft again.
This one year stuff is useless and counterproductive. It's actually destroying college basketball in some ways. There are always people who are going to love it, but at what expense.
In a nutshell, you should be allowed to earn a living if your good enough and someone drafts you.
There are only a few elite players in the NBA that came right out of high school. It should be looked at as an exception to the rule. All others need to go to college for a while and develop their character and ability in a good solid setting.
