The Bulls have no choice come June 26th in New York City: Take Michael Beasley.

He has the ability and size to become one of the top forwards in the league in just his rookie season.

Beasley averaged 26.5 points (third in the nation) and 12.5 rebounds (first) last season as a freshman, and set the National Freshman and Big 12 records for double-doubles in a season. On top of that, he shot 53.2 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from behind the arc, giving him the ability to both play down on the block and bring it out to show the range.

In other words, this is a no brainer.

I'm tired of this talk of Derrick Rose, as well. I'll concede he is a good player and it may be hard to find a point guard that can run in the NBA, but I won't concede that he can have as big an impact as Beasley in his first year.

Beasley is a 6'9", 235-pound animal that can go bang inside and still pop outside and hit the shot. Players that are this special and this size don't come along that often, and I believe he will be the rookie to make the biggest impact on the game since LeBron James was selected in 2003.

Add to this the fact that the Bulls already have a good point guard in Kirk Hinrich, so, unless they plan on blowing up the roster, Beasley quickly becomes the better pick in the current situation. It would net a starting five of Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Noah and Beasley. That's a pretty impressive lineup when you look it over; even if it is a little small, it's something that you'd think you can win with.

So with all respect to Derrick Rose, I think that the Chicago Bulls need to take Michael Beasley with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. I think he is a better fit with the Bulls' current roster situation, and that he has the ability to be an immediate impact player.

  1. The pick should be Derrick Rose. Hinrich could be on the way out.

  2. We can easily get a power forward with a 20 pt 10 rebound game through a trade (Carmelo Anthony may be available) and if that doesn't workout Drew Gooden proved as the season drew to a close, that the Bulls have found there long lost post presence they have been looking for. Derrick Rose in contrast is a once in a lifetime draft who can easily turnaround a franchise and would help make Tyrus Thomas and Noah achieve their potential as power forwards. Bulls, Derrick Rose is your Man!!

  3. Derrick Rose is a rare find with size and athleticism at the point guard position. Although Michael Beasley is an excellent player, I think the hometown kid finds his way into Chicago. If you draft Derrick, then maybe you can move Kirk and keep Ben Gordon and Luol Deng. Also folks, don't give up on Tyrus Thomas just yet. He still has loads of talent left in him and should develop into a nice player once Chicago gets a coach that fits them well (Avery Johnson anyone?)

  4. Until the NCAA tournament run, there were few who believed anyone but Beasley would be the Number 1 pick. Rose was terrific but I wouldn't take a guy with the number 1 pick based on a short run. Beasley, on the other hand, was sensational all year and there can be no doubt that he will be an NBA All Star for many years. With a glut of power forwards, the Bulls will be able to get a great deal in a trade, including a guard, if they feel the need. And don't downgrade Hinrich too much. He was as good a college guard as Rose and is still a very fine NBA player.

  5. If any other team went first, Rose would have been the pick, but the Bulls got it, and Hinrich is/will be a 17-6 guy next season, they wont get rid of him, they will take Michael Beasley, and finish 6th in the east. (Still Underachieving)

  6. the chigago bulls will be crazy to take there hometown point gaurd yes he will be one of the best gaurds in 10 years but kirk hinrich is fine take the pf/sf micheal beasley he is at the top of the crop in this year draft the bulls should take the 20/10 guy (pts/rebounds) so take beasley and your lineup is kirk hinrich(pg) ben gordon(sg) luol deng (sf) micheal beasley (pf) joakim noah (c) bench chirs duhon andres nochioni tyrus thomas drew gooden Larry hughes hey it gets you a playoff bid but if you take rose that sets you back for a couple of years because you would have to package a deal possibly kirk hinrich ben gordon and mabe tyrus thomas or joakm noah witch is alot of good young talent
