The Effect Of The JR Smith Suspension

Today Nuggets new starting shooting guard JR Smith was suspended for seven games because of his reckless driving incident back in 2007.  The loss of JR for the first seven games will hurt Denver a lot in the scoring department and as their premier three point threat.

With Smith's suspension, I expect either Arron Afflalo to start in Smith's place for those seven games or the swingman Denver has yet to sign.  That player will either be Wally Szczerbiak or Rashad McCants.

Denver will have to focus more on defense in the first seven games and rely on the small supply of scoring unless players step up such as Afflalo or Chris Anderson.

What Denver really needs to worry about is how JR Smith will handle this suspension.  If he lets it get in is head like he has with some things in years past, JR could start off struggling.  However, if Smith learns from this and listens to what Billups is preaching to him as we speak I think Smith will come back from the suspension and become the player I think he is capable of being like I mentioned in my article earlier.

Only time will tell how Smith will react to this and how Denver will play without him, but I expect Smith to come back......
