Reports out of California are claiming that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are on the verge of acquiring left handed starter Scott Kazmir from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rumors are that the Angels would send minor leaguers Alexander Torres and Matthew Sweeney back to Tampa.

The Angels have struggled with injuries in their rotation all season, and trading for Kazmir would provide them some depth for the final five weeks of the season.

Kazmir is 8-7 with a 5.92 ERA this year in 20 games for the Rays. Opposing batters are hitting a robust .273 against Kazmir while his WHIP has ballooned to 1.54 this year.

By acquiring two prospects for Kazmir, the Rays also set the bar higher for the team bidding for Chicago's Rich Harden, the Minnesota Twins. Harden has been significantly better lately than Kazmir, and this deal would increase the Cubs' asking price for their right-hander.
