College football coaches don't get much time off these days. With recruiting, coaching, speaking at events, watching film, and some more recruiting, time is precious for head coaches all over the nation.

But this week, some college head football coaches will give up some of that time to give back to the troops.

A number of college football coaches are heading out on Tuesday. Armed Forces Entertainment is organizing the tour, which will bring college coaches such as Auburn's Tommy Tuberville, Georgia's Mark Richt, Notre Dame's Charlie Weis, Miami's Randy Shannon, and Yale's Jack Siedlecki over to the Middle East to talk to and visit our troops.

“It is an honor for me to participate in the tour,” Tuberville said. “I am looking forward to talking to our men and women in the armed services and letting them know that we appreciate their sacrifices they are making for the country.”

"I'm thrilled to do it," Shannon told The Associated Press Wednesday. "I mean, you get to go over and support the people over there in the military. And most of the coaches kind of know each other: Mark Richt attended the University of Miami, Tommy Tuberville coached with me, Charlie Weis I know from the NFL. Everybody's excited about it and we're going over to support the people that support us."

The coaches will spend some time in Germany visiting with the troops before heading off to Kuwait.

Some of the activities the coaches get to participate in is coaching flag football games, answering questions from the troops, and holding clinics.

In a era of self-indulgent coaches and overblown egos in sports, it's nice to see some coaches giving their time to do a positive thing.

"We want to support them not only in prayer but also in person," said Richt, who has family ties to the Air Force, Army and Marine Corps, in a statement. "I look forward to meeting as many of our men and women in the armed forces as possible."
