Josh Kless is just as mystified as you are about the tight end's role with the team.

NFL, New York Giants, Jeremy Shockey, Breaking News

During this offseason, Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride made sure to call Jeremy Shockey to assure the absent tight end he's wanted and needed. Shockey's response was not made public.

"It wouldn't be fair for me to divulge what was said by him," Gilbride said yesterday at rookie mini-camp.

There is no doubt that Shockey was feeling all sorts of swirling emotions after the Giants won the Super Bowl while he was sidelined with a broken leg. The team explored trading Shockey, but did not find a suitable offer. The company line from GM Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin remains, "Jeremy is our starting tight end," but no one is giving assurances that Shockey is a happy camper, or that he actually will be a camper at all this summer.

  1. I think that this would be a good article to have been written well with some research and time. Good idea, I would like to see some elaboration though.

  2. OK thanks for the tips Joe it will really help me in my future stories!

    1. Looking at your other stories as well as the one written after this, it seems like this was the only article without elaboration, so don't get too worked up over it.

  3. Oh and Joe feel free to edit it.

  4. I think Jeremy is coming back and I don't think it's going to be a problem at all. It's Eli's huddle now, no question about it. Shockey saw what happened last year and it will cause him to shape up -- and if not his teammates will take care of it. Eli doesn't have to worry about getting any lip from Shockey any longer after what went down last season. And why wouldn't the Giants want him back? A TE who's been to the Pro Bowl more often than not who's under contract for $1.9 million next season? I'm excited to see what the offense can be like with him back.

  5. Back in February, two days prior to Super Bowl XLII, former Giant QB Tim Hasselbeck sounded off about Shockey. He exclaimed the Giants are better off without Shockey. On my blog, www.nygmennfl.blogspot.com, I was an ardent Shockey supporter. However, as more news began to leak about Shockey's disatisfaction with his role and him possibly holding out for a new contract, I now believe Hasselbeck. Guys, this guy was going to be traded. If one reads between the lines, GM Jerry Reese and Giants' coaches are not saying with conviction Shockey will be back. Even players are using words like "I hope" he will be back. When questioned at the draft, Reese was very defensive and brushed off reporters questions about Shockey. I think it is clear to me, Shockey wants out of New York. Otherwise, he or his agent would put out a media release to end this ongoing soap opera.
I hope the Giants and Shockey can work out a trade. Then we can move on.

    1. So if the Giants are so interested in trading him, why didn't they?

  6. okay i get that

  7. on draft day the talked about deal to possibly the saints wasnt the only team, the green bay packers were also actually interested in giving WR Koren Robinson and a 2nd round pick for shockey but for whatever reason didnt come through and robinson was cut early this month
