Youthful Marlins, Effort Wasn't an Issue, Experience Was
(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)
Why the Marlins can’t get there from here. Poor defense would be your first clue. Ranked twenty-four of thirty teams is definitely not a sign of a playoff team. Freddie has to rely too much on the bullpen because our 3 – 5 starters struggle 2 out of 3 times per start. I think to earn the wildcard we need to go 0.633 after making up the current 5-game deficit. Looking back at the season our best month was June when the Marlins had a .610 winning percentage. Nick Johnson was a key acquisition but a quality starter would have gone a long way for a run to the playoffs. All in all this was a decent season for the amount of youth on the team.
