I am attempting to showcase the best and worst the NFL has to offer for their dark-colored "home" uniforms. As I have ranked each team's home wardrobe, please keep a few things in mind.

First, although the jersey itself is the main proponent of the design, my rankings are not exclusively based on just this one piece.

Helmets, pants, and socks are all taken into consideration as well and how well they flow together.

Secondly, this is a list of each team's primary dark uniform. In other words, each team's home uniform (a few teams who wear white at home notwithstanding).

At this point, I will not include alternate dark uniforms. So for example, Houston's dark blue uniform will be rated but their more recent red alternate will not.

And lastly, I cannot stress the importance of pant choice when it comes down to how each team's uniform design is ranked. As a rule, same colored dark jerseys and pants are an abomination in my eyes and will be treated harshly. I call this SCP&J (Same Color Pants & Jerseys).

Currently, 17 teams do not commit this act of fashion folly, but a growing number of 15 teams do so quite regularly. As a result, I have judged each team according to which set of pants they wear more often.

One thing you will notice is that a lot of the new designs in the NFL are not ranked very highly. This just goes to show that the simpler and more classic designs that have stood the test of time still reign supreme.

Let this be a lesson to any NFL club that is thinking about creating new uniforms! Unless your uniforms are already ugly, in which case you might as well try something new.

Let's take a look at the first eight teams.

32. Seattle Seahawks

Have you ever heard that too much of a good thing can be bad? Well in the case of the Seattle Seahawks current home uniform set, too much of a bad thing is utterly atrocious.

The thing that makes Seattle's uniforms so ghastly is that they actually have reasonable potential with their logo and color scheme, but the design has gone totally awry.

The main culprit is the insistence that the entire uniform be "Seahawk blue" from head to toe (or in this case head to knee, as Seattle wears dark navy socks).

And although "Seahawk blue" isn't a terribly ugly color, it's not particularly a nice-looking one, either.

It definitely does not look attractive as the dominant factor in the entire Seattle uniform.

To be honest, the uniform set doesn't look half bad when coupled with the club's white pants, but this color combo has only been worn once since the team redesigned their look in 2002.

Uniform Suggestions: Break up the color monotony; wear white pants at home; switch to silver helmets; redesign uniforms based on colors and sets used from '76-'01.

31. Cincinnati Bengals

Where to start? First of all, tiger print just does not look good on any part of a football player. From the helmet to the jersey to the pants, the Bengals set is dominated by notoriously tacky tiger stripes.

Also, the uniform set looks too much like it was thrown together at the last minute, and of course, the Bengals are among the greatest offenders by wearing black pants with their black jersey.

Cincinnati's helmet isn't helping matters, but it's not really the main culprit of the Bengals' ugly dress code. To go along with the tiger striping on the sleeves, the Bengals' black home uniform sports thick white piping down each side of the jersey.

Also, the pants' tiger striping (which only extends 3/4 of the way down) turns from orange and black to white and orange near the waist.

Perhaps they believed it would match the white piping on the jersey? From top to bottom this is among the ugliest of uniform sets in football history.

Suggestions: Lose the tiger striping and design a classy but mean-looking tiger logo. Design a more classic-looking uniform based on the mid-to-late 70's look.

30. Arizona Cardinals

Some may be surprised to see the Cardinals so low on this list, but their uniform set is definitely worthy of critique.

First off, it's very difficult to mess up red and white as a color scheme, but Arizona has managed to pull it off.

By adding black as an accent color and designing their uniform set to be more "modern" looking, they have ruined what was once a very underrated and classy uniform.

The main problem with the Cardinals attire is that despite only three colors and a seemingly simple design, their uniform set is full of needless lines and piping and actually quite boring.

Although they haven't worn red pants with red uniforms since 2007 and despite one of the NFL's better helmets, Arizona's home uniform set is a bore.

Suggestions: Simplify the design; Bring back the original Cardinals design; Incorporate the Arizona state flag into uniform again.

29. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers' uniforms are interesting because they exhibit two of the main problems in professional sports.

First, they show how large cat animal logos don't seem to translate well onto a uniform or helmet.

Secondly, they are a prime example of 1990s color schemes that looked "cool" at first but quickly faded into something less cool as the years wore on.

However, give Carolina credit for picking a uniform set and sticking with (minus the "Panther Blue" alternate uniform) and for never being a member of the SCP&J club.

Still, the current home uniform set leaves more to be desired. Although not overtly ugly, it reminds me of some generic Starter Company jersey that you would see in a commercial.

Perhaps the Panthers are not worthy of the No. 29 spot, but they could improve their uniform immeasurably.

Suggestions: Get a new logo and redesign the jersey shoulders and sleeves. Perhaps use striping on the socks, and use "Carolina blue" more effectively.

28. Tennessee Titans

With their current color scheme, the Tennessee Titans have a lot of potential to create a wonderful uniform. However, their current home uniform set falls a bit short.

To be fair, when they wear their white pants and dark blue jerseys they look fairly sharp. The dark blue pants at home look bad, unless paired with the baby blue jersey.

What really sets the Titans back are their two logos. Their main logo adorning their helmets is too cartoonish and a bit silly-looking.

The secondary logo on their sleeves is a better effort, but still looks as if it was designed for a Voltron character.

The other main problem with their uniform is the use of colored shoulders. This rarely looks good on any football uniform and with the Titans colors it takes away from what could be a very sleek-looking team design.

Suggestions: Completely redesign both logos and make the uniforms less busy. Perhaps pattern your look after the University of Maine (heavy use of dark blue with light blue accents and vice versa).

27. Minnesota Vikings

The new Minnesota uniforms introduced in 2006 provide an example of everything that is wrong with modern football designs. They took a uniform set that was easily one of the league's top 10 looks and turned it into a mishmash of unnecessary lines and piping.

As if tweaking the helmet logo to make it look more "modern" wasn't enough, the current set tries too hard to look cool and fails miserably.

I don't have a problem with the Vikings wearing purple pants with their white jersey, but they have committed a sin by wearing them occasionally with their purple jerseys and have joined the SCP&J club.

As a rule of thumb, if you can't describe the pattern of a jersey's design in writing, then it is probably not a very appealing one. This is the case with Minnesota's current wardrobe.

Suggestions: This is easy, return to the old uniform design used previously throughout the organization's entire history.

26. New Orleans Saints

The Saints' home uniform set is tasteful and appealing at times, but I just can't seem to like them. There's nothing major that needs to be done to them, but something doesn't seem right with their design.

More than anything their current home set is dull and uses too much gold. I've always found it surprising that New Orleans has never had a major redesign of their uniform or logo in the over 40 years of the club's existence.

Of course, the Saints have joined the SCP&J club by wearing all-black (the first NFL team to do so) and this has hurt their home uniform rating.

Nonetheless, the Saints could easily move up on this list with some minor modifications.

Suggestions: Use white numbers with gold outline, wear white pants and brighten up the current gold color. Switch back to the old Saints uniforms currently used as the home alternate.

25. St. Louis Rams

Is it any coincidence that the Rams redesigned their uniform scheme after winning the Super Bowl and failed to meet the lofty expectations thereafter? I think not.

St. Louis currently sports three different combinations with their dark blue home jersey wearing white, blue, and gold pants at any given time. Yes, that means they have joined the SCP&J club as well.

No doubt their home jersey looks best with their white pants, while the gold pants are less attractive and the blue versions clearly a sin. The Rams wardrobe is very similar to the Saints in that they both have a dull-colored gold and it is not used properly.

While the current uniform is fairly straightforward, it could use some tweaking to make it more eye-catching and sharp-looking.

Suggestions: Switch back to the old blue and yellow colors and stop using gold numbers. Put stripes on the gold pants.
