Velez roared back after the break and leveled when Zapata’s close-range strike cannoned into the net off Gabriel Paletta.

La Paz 1 - Cerro Porteno 2 (Agg. 1-4) (Copa Sudamericana, August 20, 2009) An early goal by Argentinian striker Roberto Nani gave the Paraguayans the lead and Julio dos Santos widened the gap to put Cerro four goals ahead on aggregate, before Ronald Segovia hit a consolation for the Bolivians early in the second half.

Cienciano 2 - Liverpool FC 0 (Agg. 2-0) (Copa Sudamericana, August 20, 2009) Cristian Guevara in the first half and an own goal by Carlos Santucho gave the Peruvians the qualification.
