Alabama Football: Former Braves Pitching Prospect Walks-On As Quarterback
Chris Vines, a former standout at Pelham High School, has reported to fall camp at the University of Alabama as a walk-on quarterback according to published reports by the Tuscaloosa News.
The 24-year-old Vines orginally signed to play baseball at the University of Florida in 2003, but bypassed college when the Braves drafted him the same year.
Vines was sent to the Braves' Class A Mrytle Beach Pelicans posting a 4-1 record with a 3.98 ERA last season.
His baseball career was effectively ended by Tommy John surgery in 2006. Vines still has four years of college eligibility left.
