He hasn't had a fight in three years. He is known the most for his "gnawing" personality, especially in regards to Evander Holyfield. But nothing could have prepared the world for this blockbuster rumor.
As reported on Yahoo.com, the sports fighting world has been abuzz over rumors that the man once known as "The Baddest Man on the Planet" could be returning to the ring to face a man that has become known by the viral videos that have been circulating all over the Internet.
But the story doesn't quite end there. It actually begins there. Not much is known about Kimbo Slice, but he is being considered the 21st-century Mike Tyson. That's the problem...in one person's eyes.
With the same intimidating look and powerful punch that made Tyson notorious in the ring, Slice became known to the world via the world's favorite video site: YouTube. Following the display of devastation and destruction he left on his path to stardom, the floodgates of boxing hell opened...and Iron Mike walked right through it.
Now we're in present day, and so far, they are still rumors. Slice's promoter, Gary Shaw, seems to think that they won't go further than just "he said, she said." But with his main event prize fighter prepping for Elite XC's debut on national television, he's putting the talks of a showdown between him and Tyson on the back-burner.
But the fans are speaking...and they're speaking loudly! Don't ask me why, but millions of calls flooded the Elite XC main office since the rumors became public. Those fans are calling for the showdown between the past and the present.
A convincing (and dominating) win over James Thompson, the unlucky victim of Slice, could bring more talk of the fight for the ages...literally. But he already has an advantage over Tyson. Kimbo is in peak condition and looks intimidating even before he steps into the cage. Tyson is 300 pounds and hasn't fought since June of 2005.
The stakes show that Slice could easily defeat Tyson and make the Iron One's already mediocre career worse. One lifetime ago, he was the baddest man on the planet. But now, he is nothing more than everyone's personal punching bag outside of lock-up and everyone's personal boyfriend inside of lock-up.
In any event, I would like to see this fight. A battle between Slice and Tyson may give Elite what it needs to step into the mainstream. If Tyson gets into shape, he may actually put up a fight. After all, it worked for Brock Lesnar when he went from WWE to UFC. Who's to say it won't work for Tyson?
So in the interest of fairness, I'm joining the millions of fans who have already requested that this dream fight become reality. Because nothing would be better than watching Tyson back down from yet another challenge...or did you guys forget about the challenge he received from Stone Cold Steve Austin...in his prime?
