Georgia-Alabama: Bulldogs Bite 'Bama in OT

IconA week ago, Alabama savored the taste of a huge victory.

This week, they're chewing on a bitter defeat.

The Tide nearly pulled off their second-straight comeback win on Saturday, but it wasn't meant to be. Georgia bested 'Bama 26-23 in overtime.

Time to give credit where it's due: The Bulldogs were clearly the best team on the field...as was painfully obvious when Georgia QB Matthew Stafford connected with Mikey Henderson on a 25-yard TD pass to give his team the victory.

The Crimson Tide did mount a valiant effort to force overtime, scoring the game-tying touchdown on a six-yard scamper by quarterback John Parker Wilson.

But they couldn't quite get over the hump.

Georgia's offense clicked for most of the game, while 'Bama's sputtered early. The Tide had some timing issues in the passing game, just missing big plays on several occasions.

As they say, though, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

The Alabama defense played its heart out, but once again stayed on the field too long as a result of offensive inconsistency.

The D-line continues to be a question mark, finishing the game with no sacks and only four quarterback hurries.

Part of that limited pass rush was a product of the Dawgs' excellent offensive line play, but it's time for Wallace Gillberry and Co. to step up.

Stafford had enough time to eat a pizza before he was forced to throw on most plays, and he was impressive, finishing 19-35 for 224 yards and two TDs. He has the makings of a legitimate force in the SEC.

Alabama can also take some positives away from the game.

Wideout Mike McCoy continued to shine, both as a receiver and a blocker. Alabama also continued to prove that they won't quit, even when they're down.

The Tide is in for a fight next week when they face FSU in Jacksonville.

After the last two weeks, I say bring it on.
