NASCAR Whelen Modifieds To Make Bristol Debut This Week

(Bristol, TN)  The World's Fastest Half Mile have brought some great action, tempers flare and fans to their feet.  Before the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, The NASCAR Whelen Modified and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will make their first ever appearance at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday for a 150 lap event. The tour was suspose to race last Thursday at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, CT but was postponed to weather and rescheduled to September 3rd.  Ryan Preece has been the driver on fire the last two races.  Preece has won back to back races at the Riverhead Raceway in Riverhead, NY and Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT. Between the top four drivers in the points is 92 points.  Last year's champion Ted Christopher is the point leader.  He holds a 14 point lead over Todd Szegedy.  Christopher and Szegedy tested at the track back in February.  Szegedy and the other Whelen Modified Tour teams had a chance to test in June.

George Brunnhoelzl, III is the point leader in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. He holds a 76 point lead over Andy Suess. Brunnhoelzl, III came in the second at the last Whelen Southern Tour Event at Bowman Gray Stadium.  Suess finished in the 14th position. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne have entered in the race on Wednesday.  Newman will have Martin Truex Jr's crew chief Kevin "Bono" Manion as his crew chief.  Kasey Kahne will have Tommy Baldwin, JR as his crew chief.

Teams will get a special two hour practice on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, teams will get two rounds of practice from 8 am-9:50.  Then a final practice from 11 am to 11:50 am. Qualifying will be held at 3 PM will the green flag dropping at 6:15 P.M.
