41 goals, six assists, and an abundance of Man of the Match awards, Cristiano Ronaldo’s statistics speak volumes of his outstanding talent.

Ronaldo is undoubtedly in the form of his life and many have deemed the United winger as the best player in the world.

The Professional Footballers' Association award, the Players Footballer of the Year Award, the Football Writers Association Award, the English Golden Boot Award, as well as the Sir Matt Busby award, have all found their way into Ronaldo’s expanding trophy case in the past few weeks.

Ronaldo also became only the second player to ever win both the FWA and PFA awards in consecutive seasons.  Thierry Henry of Arsenal managed the feat in 2003 and 2004.

Ronaldo recently lifted the Premier League title for the second consecutive season, and the Portuguese superstar is now being regarded as the best footballer in the world.

But the Premier League’s top performer this season, still only 23, claims he isn’t the best in the world just yet.

"I have been totally surprised by how many goals I have scored as I am not even a centre forward," he said.

"But to be the best in the world I have to win titles like the Champions League and the Premier League."

"I am a winner and I have a dream that we will win the double this season. It would be madness if we did but why is it not possible now?"

"It is not easy to win anything, especially not the Champions League. I think if you win that then you go down in history and that is what I want."

If Ronaldo does win the Champions League, then he will not only mark his name in the history books, but he will have confirmed his standing as the best player in the world.

The former Sporting Lisbon wonder kid also has a chance to shine this summer for his country when Portugal plays in the Euro 2008.  Ronaldo was involved in Euro 2004, when his side lost in the final to Greece.

So if Ronaldo’s claims are true that we can only hail him as the world’s best after he wins the Champions League, then it looks like we’ll have to wait for a couple more days to see if Ronaldo really is the best footballer on the planet.

  1. Still will only mean best in Europe.
I personally think he can`t even pull that off.

  2. Champion Kanu is better.

  3. he is the best and will always remain the best

  4. I just saw an interesting quote from Ronaldo, this being said only about a day after he said what is written above.

    "I am the best.

"I am very happy with my season. I scored 31 league goals. I don't need to show anything to anyone. I won every award. I need to prove nothing.

"When I hear it said that I do not play well against the big teams, it does not annoy me because I know I am the best"

Seems funny that one day he's saying he's not the best yet, and the next day he's saying he is the best.
