Oakland Raiders

Unfortunately, Position Battles Being Decided By Default

Going into training camp the Raiders had a battle at left tackle, #2 CB, safety (both), how to split the carries at RB, who would be the two WRs, DE opposite Greg Ellis and possibly at QB.  So far, the left tackle challenger Khalif Barnes suffered an ankle injury to keep him out the entire pre-season which means that Henderson will be handed the job.  At QB, Jeff Garcia has a strained calf and now is missing time for personal reasons so any chance he had at starting Week 1 is dead.  Stanford Routt looked bad against the Cowboys as he gave up 3 catches including a TD so Chris Johnson should retain his job not by being better than Stanford Routt, but by being not as bad.  At WR, Javon Walker is still sidelined by off-season knee surgery, DHB constantly hurts his hamstring and Louis Murphy had a sore hip which is day to day, like DHB.  Even though those injuries are minor it effects the playing time they get which is crucial as rookies.  At DE Trevor Scott got the start against Dallas and he is a good player, but his competition is Jay Richardson who had an injury going into camp.  Even though I am confident in who the Raiders have it would be nice to see healthy competition to get the best players on the field to play San Diego on September 14.
