The Milwaukee Brewers made a deal to keep one of the best draft picks in town. Ryan Braun, the 2007 Rookie of the year, made the move from third base to left field.

The move filled the defensive void created when Geoff Jenkins departed to the Phillies and when Carlos Lee was traded to Texas. While sometimes not the most sure handed third baseman, Braun has been good, if not great, in his short time in left field this year.

Braun signed an eight-year deal worth about $5.6 million a year. While it's the largest deal in team history, it's a great move by the head office. Plus, its a good deal for a player that has a great bat and is pretty solid in the outfield.

It also seems like a turning point. It seemed like from around 1992 to 2002 that the Brewers seemed to trade away their best players or let them go into free agency. News of Braun's deal has raised hopes that Fielder, Hart and others may get a long-term contract.

On a side note: Anybody else notice that in interviews, Braun only seems to be able to raise his left eyebrow? He could be doing this by choice or doesn't know he isn't moving the eyebrow.

Things are starting to look up in Milwaukee, the city that made beer famous...or something like that.
