Cavs-Celtics Series Recap: Welcome Home

Ron JohnsonMay 16, 2008

So far this postseason, the Cavaliers haven't managed to go down easily. So far this postseason, the Celtics have yet to win on the road. This weekend, someone's luck is about to change. Here's the series recap so far.

Game Three: Cavaliers 108, Celtics 84

With his young son cheering him on, LeBron James brought the Cavalier faithful to its feet. But it was his supporting cast that led Cleveland to victory as they did what the Hawks did in the first round to Boston: Win at home.

Despite an off shooting night, James scored 21 points while Delonte West added another 21 as the Cavs scored their first victory of the series. As for the Boston Three Party, they tried to keep things close against Cleveland (Garnett with 17, Pierce with 14, and Allen with 10), but not even they could contain the team and the crowd.

Game Four: Cavaliers 88, Celtics 77

LeBron James: 21 Points. Kevin Garnett: 15 Points. Gloria James: As many points as a mother can ask for on the day after Mother's Day. Being posterized both on and off the court: Priceless.

In a game filled with emotion, Cleveland proved how dangerous it can be at home as they evened their series with Boston at two games apiece. But there were two things that stood out from this game that left everyone talking.

The first one was when James' mother grabbed at Paul Pierce after a foul that almost cleared both benches. The rule is always respect your mother, but another rule is always respect the game. As LeBron told her to sit down, he added another poster to his son's wall as James slammed one home on a defenseless Garnett.

Game Five: Celtics 96, Cavaliers 89

Boston was happy to be home after a dismal performance in Cleveland, and they had no problem showing that happiness. KG had yet another double-double (26 points, 16 rebounds) while Rajon Rondo added a double-double (20 and 13) as the Celtics regained control of their series with the Cavaliers.

After going four games with a lousy shooting percentage, King James went 12-for-25 for 25 points, but missed all five of his 3-point attempts. He can thank Paul Pierce for that, as the Celtics erased a 14-point deficit to take the lead and keep it.

If anyone plans on keeping Boston from its 17th NBA Championship, they will have to beat them at home, which has been impossible. Bigger problem: Boston still has not won on the road this postseason.

Game Six: Boston at Cleveland

While Detroit polished off its series against Orlando, the Celtics and Cavs are duking it out in royal fashion. With the series shifting back to Cleveland for Game Six, Boston either has to win tonight or find a way to get the momentum back before Sunday night's Game Seven.

The way that Cleveland has played at home, it's almost as if they put it in second gear. Boston has had trouble getting it out of first on the road. With the way that Atlanta played them in the first round, Boston could be in trouble.

But here's the bigger question: Has anyone who has ever won the NBA's most prized possession ever won it without winning on the road?

But another question in regards to tonight: Is Gloria James going to behave herself, or will they have to beef up security? I hear that a few mascots are looking for new jobs.
