The Padres are this close to being good!!! With three moves in the offseason, I think they can contend for the NL West in 2010.
Have we seen enough of the outfielders to know what we have? We're playing FOUR on a regular basis; Headley, Venable, Gwynn and Blanks. Is that going to be enough for 2010? I don't think so. I'd love to sign a free agent with a "proven stick," someone to bat in front or after Adrian. What free agent outfielder is out there?? A veteran presence in the outfield would be terrific!
I'm not sure about our catcher, Nick Hundley. Something tells me that Nick would be a better #2 than a #1. Anyone else feel that way? Who is out there besides Jason Varitek?
We still have that potential logjam at third where Kouz has played himself into the top role but the shadow of Headley continues to loom. Will we see a trade or two in the off season?? Either way, it's a good problem to have.
While our bullpen is better than before, I am not seeing much of anything from Perdimo, Burke or Thatcher. Gregerson has been hot and cold but I think he stays.... But clearly, we need some new arms in the 'pen.
How about adding ONE bona fide starting pitcher? That will allow for a very intense spring camp for the other 4 spots. Anyone else for that?
Keep Eckstein.... In fact, sign him now for next year and promise him a job in the organization when he retires. I think Maddux wants to coach here too. Get him signed too!! Would he be better than Balsley?? Maybe!!
Well, that's it for now. Go Padres!!
