One thing that has always drawn me to sports, especially wrestling, is the decision making process in putting together the final product that fills the seats in arenas and gets broadcast for our viewing enjoyment.
That decision making ultimately brings forth the time we fans spend, dissecting, analyzing, debating and questioning the moves the powers that be have made and will make in the future.
Its the theoretical questions I enjoy the most and the answers they bring, from people with a deep-seated knowledge of the topic and how much their opinions may differ in the end.
For this roundtable questionnaire, I've assembled five of the most knowledgeable writers in the B/R Pro Wrestling Community...Shane Howard, Sulayman, Matthew Hester, Scott Beeby, and Kevin Williams.
Before beginning, I once again would like to thank those five for the time they took in answering and contributing to this article.
The following is their answers to my questions, as if they were making the decisions in the WWE.
Of the many WWE Superstars who have never held the World or WWE title, who deserves the biggest push towards a title reign in the coming months?
Shane: Currently in the WWE, there are several veterans in the game who have not held a top title. Carlito, Matt Hardy, William Regal, Chavo Guerrero, Jamie Noble, Mark Henry, Hurricane Helms, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Christian, Goldust and Tommy Dreamer. These individuals have put some years in the company and are all pretty good workers.
I'm assuming you are wanting me to choose just one person that I feel ultimately deserves a push to the top, and for that, I would choose Matt Hardy. Shelton Benjamin is a close second, but I give the edge to Matt because of his countless years of service.
Matt is also one of the most improved of those veterans. He can work and has developed a pretty decent microphone game. I despise the push that his less-talented brother has gotten, and it would be great to see Matt reach the mountaintop by defeating Jeff.
That would be a much better brother vs. brother feud than the one they had earlier this year. Think back to Owen and Bret.
Sulayman: Shelton Benjamin. He's a good feud away from turning face. William Regal is the No. 1 contender for the ECW championship right now, but Benjamin has also been on a streak recently and that brings up the question, can Benjamin take the ball and run with it?
Shelton's tenure in the WWE is approaching nine years and with a farm system like ECW, the potential to give him a chance with the belt is there.
Don't think of it as a 'passing the parcel' game with the title. Swagger got his chance and he's amassed a lot of heat since then and is now on Raw.
Think of it as a test drive. If the car (Shelton's title run) performs brilliantly, wouldn't you want to buy it?
Matthew: I would go with MVP. He is multi-talented with the stick and in the ring. I always felt he wasn't used properly.
I would also have to go with Shelton Benjamin. While he isn't great on the stick, he is an off-the-hook ring general. Its not like he can be worse than Jeff Hardy.
