Creature Vs. Creature Writers Pool: Michigan Picks

Kelly CrandallSenior Writer IAugust 14, 2009

Not only is the Sprint Cup Series back to ovals this week, but also back to Michigan for the Carfax 400 at “The House That Roush Built.” Although no Roush car won in June, Greg Biffle was leading on the last lap when he ran out of fuel going down the backstretch.

Fuel was also the issue in Watkins Glen last weekend when Tony Stewart conserved enough to pick up his third win of the season and give four of our Creatures wins of their own.

This week in Michigan, our Creatures are looking to correctly pick the winner for the sixth straight race. Here’s who they feel will pull into victory lane on Sunday:

Ben Bomberger: Carl Edwards

Mary Jo Buchanan: Greg Biffle

The Roushketeer bunch typically does well in the Irish Hills of Michigan!

Kelly Crandall: Greg Biffle

Just like in June I’m going stick with the Biff. He came so close to pulling off the win, just like Michigan’s sister track California, and I doubt that No. 16 team will let the same thing happen this Sunday like what happened on the last lap a couple of weeks ago.

Plus, I picked Stewart at Sonoma and he didn’t win, so I picked him at the second road course and pulled it. Hopefully the Biff can continue that trend for me!

Kara Martin: Carl Edwards

Nothing profound or enlightening from me this week as to why I chose Edwards, just have a hunch that this will finally be the race to end his winless streak. Hope I’m right!

SM Napier: Greg Biffle

This week going with one of Roushketeer's, the Bif. He runs well at MIS, think his luck will change, he'll get his first win of the season and pick up a few positions to secure himself in the chase. Sure the Cat in the Hat, has the gas deal figured out.

David Phillips: Jimmie Johnson

Jen Preston: Carl Edwards

It’s about time Carl Edwards got back to victory lane, and Michigan is the place to do it. He has two wins, an average finish of sixth, and just one finish outside the top 10 in his career at MIS.

Rob Tiongson: Jimmie Johnson

He was oh so close to a resounding victory here in June, only to sputter to the finish. This time around, the No. 48 team will seal the deal with redemption as their mission. Not to mention if there was any track that "owed" Jimmie a win besides the road courses, it's Michigan.

It appears on Sunday our Creatures will have their eyes clued to three cars—Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson—to collect the checkered flag come Sunday afternoon. Will they be right again?

Before we get racing, here’s another look at the updated point standings after Monday’s race in Watkins Glen.
