Likely the most anticipated battle on the plains came to a some what shocking end today, as Coach Gene Chizik named Chris Todd his starter.

Judging by the initial reactions, some fans were stunned to hear the news. Kodi Burns "last years starter" didn’t take snaps with the QBs during Thursday practice but was found lining up with the wide outs.

Chris Todd ,a senior, signed with Texas Tech out of Elizabethtown (Ky.) High in 2005 but transferred to Hutchison (Kan.) Community College in 2007.

Todd injured his shoulder while at Hutchison but chose to try rehab rather then surgery. After seven games (five starts) last season it was apparent that surgery was the only viable option if Todd planned to ever play again.

Last year Todd completed 86-of-156 passes for 903 yards and five touchdowns with six interceptions. He also showed some real promise in the Southern Miss. and LSU games.

Todd was considered a long shot at best this season due to the surgery. However judging by some early accounts his arm strength has improved tremendously.

The rest of the QB depth chart is yet to be completely ironed out but expect Jr. Neal Caudle and freshmen Tyrik Rollison to battle for backup. Freshmen Clint Moseley will likely take a red shirt.
