If you guys recall, we’ve had 3 players so far added to the early season watch list for national player of the year. Andre Smith and Antoine Caldwell were among the first added for the award celebrating the lineman of the year: Outland Trophy.
Caldwell garnered even more attention when it was named to the Rimington watch list which is awarded to the top center.
Now, Rashad Johnson joins those two with his nomination to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List which is awarded to the top defensive player in college football.
The College Football Writers Association selects these names and votes on who wins the award at the conclusion of the regular season.

I'm really proud of these guys getting nominated for these awards. I think Andre Smith has a great chance of winning the Outland Trophy. The guy is simply a beast. Caldwell I believe will be hte best Center in CFB this season, and Rashad Johnson is one of those guys that it's just hard not to like and pull for. A former walk-on who worked his way up to not only earning a scholarship, but also being an All-SEC DB. Now he gets his nomination for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy. These are the type of guys that make college football great.

Congrats to all of these guys. Andre has done as well as you could hope for since he's been on campus. I'm looking forward to seeing them prove they are worthy of winning such great honors.
I'm sure they will have a great year.
Good luck!
