The Cubs dropped their fourth game in a row Wednesday in a 12-5 disaster against the Phillies. Jeff Samardzija's first major league start ended after just 3 1/3 innings. Sean Marshall then came in and gave up two 3 run homers in the third inning to Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez. Pedro Martinez got the win in his first start this season, pitching 5 innings, giving up 7 hits, and three runs. Samardzija got the loss, bringing his ERA to 7.81. This loss extended the gap between the Cardinals and Cubs to 4 games. The Cubs are struggling, and they need to turn it around before it is too late.
