Front Page, NBA Playoffs, NBA Western Conference, Editorial

There are many people taking part in the competition organised by Bleacher Report. The idea is to write about the team you are supporting throughout the playoffs, and write articles about how they are progressing.

The competition ends at the end of the season, and all article views are counted up. The winner of the competition receives a voucher worth $100 to spend on NBA.com.

When going to the NBA Beat Writers page, I am finding articles with nothing to do with the playoffs, and some writers are writing about a hand full of different teams.

Im not to happy about this and something should really be done to stop it. It would be very difficult to get the people in charge of the competition to go through every article, and make sure they were valid and about the playoffs. It would be more difficult to monitor weather writers were writing about the team they are supporting.

So it is down to the writers themselves.

Please don't tag every article you write "NBA Beat Writers" when they so obviously aren't, its not fair on the other contestants.

  1. O.K. Just out of curiousity, am I one of those people that wrongly tag articles NBA Beat Writers?

    1. If your articles on the draft are tagged with NBA beat writers then I would say yes.
The impression I got from the email was to write about the team you support and how they are progressing through the playoffs.

  2. Im not in the competition but understand where jason is coming from. If I had found this site earlier I would have rather enjoied this competition but now it is to late.

    1. There is no specific rule saying you must only write about the playoffs but the email sent to contestants said you are writing about your team throughout the playoffs. dont let not being in the competition stop you from writing gary.

  3. In another email, I was told it time for those writers whose playoff teams to grind out by writing on ways to improve through the draft, free agency, and what changes to be made.

So I felt that they were legal.

    1. fair enough, I didn't see that email so ill assume your right.

  4. Hey All-

Thanks for your interest and concern... a good sign for any contest. A few things here:

    1) I made a recent comment on the blog post (http://blog.bleacherreport.com/?p=81) inviting anyone who reads an incorrectly tagged article to send me a link for further review. I have already removed several tags, and allowed others.

    2) The goal here is for articles to be timely (i.e. about the NBA Playoffs) and preferably about your team. By way of explanation, we're looking for articles that could appear as NBA columns in the LA Times or the Dallas Morning news, for example. That doesn't necessarily mean that every word you write has to be about the Lakers or Mavs. Thoughts on the way your series is being officiated, fan behavior, home court advantage, television coverage, etc. are all fair game IF those topics are timely and relevant to your readers.

    3) Obviously, there is a subjective component here. At this stage of the playoffs, it wouldn't be very time effective to comb through every NBA article that comes in to determine whether or not it's eligible for the Beat Writers competition. But collectively, if we self-police, we'll be able to keep it pretty clean for the time being. And rest assured, when the Finals are over and it's time to determine our winner, we'll take a much closer look at "qualifying articles."

    Hope that provides some clarity.
    Trey

    1. Any updates on your decision on the article I gave the link to?
