We love goal-scoring goalies, and last night in Brazil’s second division we were treated to a super free-kick from Atletico Goianiense keeper Marcio.
28-year-old Marcio Luiz Silva Lopes Santos Souza, to give him his full name, follows in the footsteps of the great Jose Luis Chilavert as being a keeper with a superb eye for goal, and deadly from set-plays.
Earlier in the season the keeper opened his account for the year striking a free-kick past Parana (watch here), and on Tuesday night the keeper doubled his tally with an even better goal against Ipatinga.
Showing how valuable Marcio’s free-kicks are to his team, with the game still goalless the number one was asked to head up-field in the 39th minute to strike the dead-ball. Stepping up to the plate, the keeper needed just a one-step run-up before striking his right-footed effort, with the ball travelling speedily and accurately into the top corner.
Marcio’s terrific free-kick against Ipatinga can be seen here.
