Can you imagine having to spread the ball around among an offensive team made up of All-Pros and HOF'ers and only needing to score a few points to win?
Having watched the Steelers of the seventies was truly a blessing! Their defense was brutal and oppressive; their offense was bruising and exciting!
I hear talk about the numbers and stats for some of the Steelers players from the seventies and I have to ask the people who challenge those numbers if they are seeing the big picture.
Bradshaw: Can you imagine not only having to distribute the ball to the best two receiver tandem ever to play the game, but also to two running backs who each rack up 1000 yards in a 14 game season?
Swann: Can you imagine getting your catches and yards on a team that had all those offensive weapons and only needed to score in the high teens to win because the defense typically held the opponent to a point total in the low teens (five shut outs in 1976)
Harris: Can you imagine rushing for over 1000 yards in seven of your first eight seasons on a team like this playing only 14 game per year?
It's too bad we will never see football like that again!
