NHL, NHL Northeast, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Mats Sundin, Breaking News

There is some word going around that Mats Sundin is interested in joining the Montreal Canadiens.

If this is true, it would help Montreal with some of the issues they have right now.

Sundin still has...I would say 2 good years left of NHL hockey. He would bring an immediate presence to a Montreal team that is lacking leadership skills, on and off the ice. He would also bring natural goal scoring ability and play making skills.

At this point in time I'm not quite sure which line he would fit into but they would obviously figure all of that stuff in training camp.

Again, If this is true, this is a big blow to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Whether Sundin is doing this to get back at the Leafs for trying to trade him at the deadline, or whether he wants to win a cup, its all a bunch of crap to me.

Thing's are starting to get worse and worse for the Toronto Maple Leafs. No Coach, No GM, No Captain, and oh yeah, MLSE.

If I were the leafs and a rumor like this was going around, I would definitely be looking into it.

  1. source?

  2. RDS

  3. link?

  4. I have been looking for that rumour on the net ... actually I am still looking, but instead I found this
    http://ottsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Hockey/2008/05/11/5530811-sun.html

  5. its also on www.rumormethis.com

  6. http://rumormethis.com/rumors/rumor-tips/sundin-interested-in-montreal/

    there is the link

  7. Miah I saw the Yashin article, not sure if he'd fit in Montreal with his attitude . As for Sundin it's only a rumor and we know how they end up and we need to sign someone long term to solve problems in the long term not for the next 2 years. He had a chance to come to Montreal why all of a sudden this change of heart?

  8. Hockey rumours, must you kick us while we're down?!? I really don't see Sundin playing anywhere other than Toronto, but he'd be a great addition to the Habs for next season. Let's hope it doesn't come to pass.

  9. This would be terrible for the leafs if montreal picked him up, and imagine the leafs playing the habs! that would be insane.

  10. I agree, if Sundin gets in Montreal, it will be definitely out of control in the crowd for the leafs-habs games! I see the guy scoring against Toskala...
the thing is, we have to consider that the guy is getting married, 37 years old, great career and all that stuff ... maybe he would be among the great vets to retire this year.
his only motivation maybe: a Stanley Cup. then we will have to hope for him to look at the Habs as Cup contenders.
and then, for how long would he stay? but I guess bob gainey will come with the 3-year deal type of contract. the one year stuff, he does it to the third and fourth line. the big guns, they get the 3-4 years! (look at Hamrlik)
but Daniel is right, he did not want to come at the trade deadline, what would change his mind now.

about Yashin, if he could not play the spoiled-child/I-m-the-victim attitude, he can be considered as an asset. but if we get another samsonov, or a 2007-version of kovalev, it is better to say thanks but no thanks.

  11. ya he would get a 1 year deal, either at 4.5 million with a no trade clause or 6 million with one. Also Mats likes to asses his year and his health every offseason and see if hes ready to go. So yeah he might be considering retirement, but im confident he will be back another year, hopefully a leaf.

and what could of changed his mind was that he actually thought about what the leafs were doing and realized that no one wanted him there at that time. Also he could be getting anxious for a cup! haha

but anyways getting back to reality here, we will see what happens, if hes in blue and white, or in red and white!

    1. gainey needs a forward, obviously. the Habs need a Center, there he is. Carbo wants another player at the range of Koivu and Kovy, well again, there he is. and finally, a vet that can lead the young guys somewhere other than touring in the jails of Tampa bay and who can actually pass the blue line without getting crashed down or stuck out there.
we look at the 2008 UFA list, he is the best guy out there for the job. but we are talking about the captain of the leafs also. there are millions of stuffs to be considered supposing he actually cares about the Canadiens. there are already rumours about having both koivu and kovy in the same room bringing up some leadership troubles. with Sundin, there will be too much chiefs and not enough indians!

anyway, as u say, we ll see ... but I would not bet on that one too much. unfortunately ...

  12. but it does sound like a great fit for the canadiens....and i actually think he is considering another team other than toronto.

well at least he should be

  13. ive heard from multiple sources that these rumors are true....now that would put toronto in ANOTHER aqward position...man i feel sorry for this club, but mostly the fans.
I think the leafs will indeed finish last next season in the Eastern Conference.

Sundin Would Fit Perfectly in a Canadiens Uniform!

  14. great article by the way! you have potential!

  15. yeah i really dont see sundin coming to montreal...he would definitely go out west

  16. if sundin goes to montrel then dat situation might turn out to be a situation like carter going to other team and it might be bad for sundin but i dont think hes going to other team because he already has said it and well see if hes the man of his word

  17. Just because Sundin Wants to come to Montreal doesn't mean Gainey wants him. Why sign someone who turned his back a few months ago? He wanted to stay loyal to the team and was thinking about himself before the team. Now,do the Habs really need someone like that in the team? To me, it's just another example of Sundin thinking about himself.

  18. somewhere I guess Gainey will still consider anything that comes on the desk of his office with a high stats and impressive reputation on ice. but I know, that does not mean he will accept it.
we all know, Montreal does not attract the big names for some reason. so whenever one of those will come along, it is already a big step forward for the club.

    we will see

  19. Piece of shit Sundin...good riddance...i hope every time he comes near the puck the fans boo the meatball mercilessly. And what's this about trying to get back at Toronto for trying to trade him at the deadline? Pardon me, asshole...but trying to help the team is not a crime...and really, throughout it all, the Leafs actaully treated him with baby gloves. Come on, if Sundin had accepted the trade, he'd have cemented his reputation in T.O....but if he goes anywhere else because he "feels betrayed" after all those years of spoil, then I say fuck him and make sure you dump your beers and piss all over him. Asshole. He'd deserve nothing less.

  20. Jack your an idiot. Sundin owes the Leafs nothing at all. They have done nothing to support him all the years he has been in Toronto. When he puts on the Habs jersey you will see the re-birth of a great player. And why not play on a great team, the Leafs are the joke of the NHL. And will continue to be bottom dwellers for years to come.
