Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks is in the Crescent City of New Orleans today.

He's going to be working out for the Saints.

ProFootballTalk.com's Gregg Rosenthal reports that the former Buc is being looked at as an option to fill in a linebacker corps that has been depleted by a torn biceps injury to Mark Simoneau.

Saints coach Sean Payton is more than familiar with Brooks, as is every coach in the NFC South.

Brooks, a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, has made it known among his inner circle in Tampa that he wanted to play one more year for the Bucs.

When he was unceremoniously waived by the new regime this past spring, he made it clear that he wanted to prove his point.

New Orleans may give him that chance.

It is doubtful the Saints would ask Brooks in and then send him home without a contract.

Stay tuned on this one.
