This a list of the NBA's top 5 centers, entering the upcoming 2009-2010 season.
I want to hear from you all on who on this list is worthy and who you think may not be worthy.
I hope you enjoy my article, and this should be one of the best NBA seasons in history this year with a lot of parity and good teams.
5.Nene
He is ah ultra quick and strong player with a solid post game and decent jump shot.Aswell as being ah solid rebounder, shot blocker and defensive player.During his 7 yr career he has seen ups and downs due to injuries and a bout with cancer. When healthy he is no doubt a force to be reckoned with by averaging double figures points in 5 of his 7 seasons.Last season he averaged 15ppg,8rpg,1bpg.He should with Shaq in the East now and Yao being out for the season be the in the running for the starting all star center in the West.
4.Emeka Okafor
The 2nd pick in the 2004 Draft has quietly had ah solid NBA career in his first 5 seasons despite missing half the season in his second year due to in injury he has averaged double figures in pts and rebs every season. His career averages are 14ppg,11rpg,2bpg.In these days of being a starting center in the NBA these are above average numbers that any team would love to have.Last season he averaged 13ppg,10rpg,2bpg.This upcoming season he will be playing with the Hornets and Chris Paul where he should enjoy and have much more success and put up slightly better numbers than last year,he might even have a chance to make the all star team out West with Shaq now in the East and Yao being out for the season.
Shaquille O'Neal
O'Neal was drafted as the 1st overall pick in the 1992 Draft and was named rookie of the year.He is widely considered a top 5 Center in NBA history, has won 4 NBA titles,3 Lakers-1 Heat and appeared in 6 NBA finals. At this point in his career he is looking to finish in style with another title playing alongside Lebron James. He has career averages of 25ppg,11bpg,2,bpg,3apg and has been playing since I was in Elementary school and i'm 27 years old now and he is still an elite center in the NBA which tells you something about the lack of big men at the position but dont get me wrong he 's still a player entering his 18th season who still commands a double team and can get you 20pts and 10 rbs every other game.Lat season he averaged 18ppg,9rpg.1bpg,2apg,
many teams are still hoping and praying they could have a center average these type of numbers he is averaging at the age of 37 and in his 17th season. He is a 15 time all star,3 time NBA Finals MVP.
2.Yao Ming
Ming was the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets,he is considered the best offensive center in the league today with a combination of quickness and power for his size.He has a solid shot up to 20 ft and is ah strong post up player and almost a 90% free throw shooter.Only knock on him is he tends to get injured alot with his 7'6 300+ lb frame and hasn't enjoyed alot of playoff sucess but in my opinion at least he has gotten his team to the playoffs basically every year, some players don't even do that. When healthy there is no big men better than him offensively.Last season he averaged 20ppg,10rpg,2bpg.He is also a 7 time NBA all star and will eventually win at least 1 NBA title before his playing career is over.
Dwight Howard
Howard was the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, and came straight from high school. He came into the league ready on the defensive end of the floor and is considered by many as the best defensive player in the league. He has elevated to the top spot on this list by leading his team to the NBA Finals this past season, last season he averaged 21ppg,14rpg,3bpg,He is also a 3 time all star and reigning defensive player of the year. With his teams offseason moves trading and signing for players such as Vince Carter,Brandon Bass,Gortat, and Matt Barnes and the healthy return of there all star point guard Nelson the Magic are loaded and ready for another run at a championship.
