Girls Gone Wild: China vs Australia in chick fight!

Sorry fellas. No tops were ripped off during the unruly punch-up.

Just over a week ago at the Women’s AFC Under-19 Championship a 22-person brawl erupted at full time after the Young Matildas had lost 2-1 to their Chinese counterparts.

The trouble was sparked following the final whistle, as an Australia player was pushed to the ground after a verbal exchange with an opposition player. Having seen their teammate take a tumble, Aussie captain Tameka Butt charged across the pitch to grab the perceived offender, and then all hell broke loose.

Both teams, including the respective backroom staff, suddenly found themselves grappling with one-another, with a series of kicks and punches thrown in the ensuing melee.

According to reports, once order had been restored and the teams left the field, the Australian women were pelted with plastic water bottles hurled from the Chinese home crowd.

In the aftermath of the incident, Football Federation Australia has attempted to draw a line under the matter by conducting an investigation in which the players, coaching staff and management were all quizzed. Additionally, the Young Matildas were also fined $4000 by the Asian Football Federation for Australia’s part in the punch-up.

Footage of the punch-up can be seen here, while a comprehensive news report into the incident, including some different angles of the fight, can be seen here.
