Several sources have reported that Leon Powe will sign a two-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday, provided that team doctors are satisfied with the status of his injured left knee.
The potential signing comes fresh from the recent press conference in which LeBron said that he will likely not sign an extension with the team because he would like to leave his options open.
If Powe's knee is cleared, he would add a solid presence to the Cavs' bench. He would most likely be a replacement to the departed Joe Smith.
Powe tore his ACL in Game 2 of the Boston Celtic/Chicago Bulls playoff opening series last season. He had reconstructive surgery, his third, and had been rehabbing in L.A.What's intriguing about this is that Powe is not expected to be back until around the All-Star break, which would mean he would be out for at least half the season but apparently it's a risk the Cavs are willing to take.
The 6'8" power forward from the University of California averaged 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds before going down with the season-ending injury last year and provided a big boost to the Celtics front court when superstar Kevin Garnett went down with a knee injury that would plague him for the remainder of the season.
