In what must be deemed yet another sad display of unsporting behaviour, Rangers fans took to the streets last night in a rage after being soundly defeated by Russia's Zenit.
Having lost the UEFA Cup final against the Russians, violence was once again the order of the day as Rangers fans rumbled and attacked Zenit fans and just about anything in their way in acts of hooliganism.
There were rough tackles coming to the end of the match which saw Zenit winning 2-0 and dominating most of the play.
This perhaps set the tone of what was to come off the field as fans quickly transformed into that which we most fear in football and sport in general.
There have been reports of stabbings and injuries of a more serious kind. One wonders if it is worth it carrying on in this way. Football has gotten out of hand in the past decades and this phenomenon is not isolated to Rangers or Britain, as it occurs in all parts of the globe.
The question is what is to be done?
We must also ask how far will this go?
We are yet to see the aftermath of last night's hooliganism but if people die it would not be the first time also, sadly to say.

Last I heard it was one stabbing. The action was trigured early on by a big screen failing in a squashed picadily venue with over 25 000 mainly drunken desperate supporters.
I think the British PM got it right today. Alcohol should be banned at events such as these as time and time again people abuse it and their priviledges.

Thing is........ I like beer!! even in a plastic cup!!
I also like seeing kids at the stadium.
I think there should be serious penalties not just pats on the back.
It should be treated as assult with or without a weapon or attempted murder with hard time penalties.

Tthis is very poor reporting.
1. The violence was not as a result of Rangers having been beaten. It resulted from a large screen failing in a packed area where in the region of 25,000 fans had gathered to watch their teams biggest game in 36 years only to be told 15 minutes before kick off that they wouldn't be able to see it at all.
2. There was one stabbing. Not sure what you are suggesting were injuries of a more serious kind. Shootings? Murders? no reports that I have read have revealed anything more serious than a stab wound where thankfully the victim has not been seriously hurt.
Please report the facts.
