Upsetting the apple cart of doom and gloom around St. James’ Park is young Dutch keeper Tim Krul who, against the odds on Saturday, posted a superb league debut for the Magpies in their Championship opener against West Brom.
21-years-old Krul came on after halftime for first-choice keeper Steve Harper, who was injured when West Brom took the lead after 39 minutes. And without doubt the young shot-stopper proved an instant hero for the Toon, making a series of outstanding saves to deny the Baggies a winner.
Twice saving from Robert Koren, and then making excellent stops to fend off shots from Luke Moore and Graham Dorrans, Krul has injected some early season cheer on Tyneside.
