Bochum 3 - Monchengladbach 3 (Bundesliga, August 9, 2009) Gladbach began the new Bundesliga season in style at Bochum, Juan Arango toe-poking the visitors into a 19th minute lead before Israeli international Roberto Colautti added in the 26th minute. Roel Brouwers completed a completed one-sided first half by heading in Gladbach’s third minutes before the break. Bochum forward Mimoun Azaouagh started the fightback early in the second half with a curler into the top corner. Azaouagh then grabbed a stunning second, hitting a first-time strike in the top corner from 25-yards out. And Stanislav Sestak completed the brilliant Bochum comeback by angling a header in off the far post.

Freiburg 1 - Hamburg 1 (Bundesliga, August 9, 2009) Jonathan Pitroipa fired Hamburg into a third minute lead after the hosts failed to clear a corner. But the newly promoted Freiburg equalised midway through the second half through a Tommy Bechmann header.
