The Punch-up: Penarol vs Newells Old Boys

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Analyst IIJune 7, 2016

Yet another friendly match which was anything but.

Saturday in Montevideo saw Uruguayan powerhouse Penarol take on Argentine outfit Newells Old Boys, but the game only lasted for 38 minutes before the referee suspended proceedings for a punch-up between the two sides.

Without question the main protagonist was Penarol’s midfielder Julio Mozzo. After the midfielder managed to find himself getting in a tangle with NOB’s Diego Mateo, the number seven quickly forget he was playing football rather than boxing as he slugged his opponent full on the chin to send the Argentine crashing to the turf.

A 22-man brawl quickly ensued, with the referee’s having little option but the call the game off after the Argetine’s refused to return to the pitch.
