The Football League returns: Derby down plucky Posh; Beckford brace leads Leeds

Derby 2 - Peterborough 1 (Championship, August 8, 2009) Miles Addison put the Ram into a fourth minute lead. The Posh looked to have claimed a point when Shaun Batt equalised the penalty spot six minutes from time. But a poor goalkeeping error from Joe Lewis, who flapped at Kris Common’s corner, allowed Gary Teale to poke home the winner. (Eye-witness footage only)

Leeds 2 - Exeter 1 (League 1, August 8, 2009) Jermaine Beckford put Leeds ahead after just 13 minutes and Exeter’s task got that much harder after Barry Corr was sent off for swinging a stray elbow. Exeter still managed to level through Alex Russell’s exquisite free-kick, only for Beckford to net the winner two minutes from time.
