Alfredo Perro Angulo: The Dog's Bite Still Draws Blood

The newest rising star in boxing's galactic 154lb division still shines brightly. Mexico's Alfredo Angulo, whose nickname is Perro—dog—proved once more that his bite is still far worse than his bark.

Angulo snarled and growled his way to victory on Friday night when he annihilated a tough young up-and-comer named Gabriel Rosado.

It took Angula only two short rounds to destroy his latest opponent in front of a packed crowd of rowdy spectators at Buffalo Bill’s Star Arena, in Primm, Nevada.

Angulo—who was defeated by Kermit Cintron in May—proved that his claims of having "Stomach Flu" during the loss just may hold some weight.

In this case, Perro was simply too powerful for his man, Rosado, to deal with, and in round two Angula dropped his foe to the canvas three separate times before referee, Russell Mora, mercifully called a halt to the action.

Rosado, for what it's worth, came into this fight highly touted. He had solid wins over Kassim Ouma and James Moore; and he had a reputation as potential future contender.

In his third year as a professional fighter Rosado—up until Friday's meeting with Angula —had never been knocked out.

However, from the opening bell onward, Angulo proved why is called Perro The Dog, as he unleashed bone-jarring left and right hooks, which seemed to come from a pugilistic hell.

It had to be a long three minutes for Rosado, as Perro continued to load up with these big shots, throwing them with Tyson-like intentions, any one of which had knockout written all over it.

Rosado, sadly, was never really in this fight from the very begining, but nearing the end of round one he did sneak in his own big left hook. For all intents and purposes, however, it was too little too late. Rosado had been bitten by the hair of the dog.

The second round begins and we find Rosado being understandably more cautious. He is using his left stick and moving to his right, keeping away from the power hand of the big punching Angulo. However, Angulo is a pressure fighter, and he managed to cut off the ring on Rosado.

From there, the two fighters wound up in a clinch, Angulo threw a wild combination of overhand rights, which effectively deposited Rosado to the canvas for the first knockdown of the fight.

Rosado, after gaining his feet, was met with an onslaught of lethal punches to the cranium from Angulo which dropped him again for the second time.

Sensing blood, the carnivorous Angulo leapt in for the "coup de grâce." Perro wasted little time in finishing Rosado. Once the fighter was hurt Angulo delivered one more hard right hand and the defeated Rosado lay slumped on the canvas.

If I didnt know better, it would be hard to convince me that the man who fought Rosado on Friday Night Fights, was the same man who fought Cintron in May.

This performance from Angulo was what I expected to see against Cintron, but one can only sympathize with a fighter who is not only battling a tough opponent in the ring, but also an annoying bout of stomach flu.

I'm a huge fan of the Mexican style of fighter, however, they seem to be retiring or else dropping like flies in recent months.

Certainly, Angula is no Oscar De La Hoya, Erik Morrales, or Marco Antonio Barrera, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that what will emerge here will be somewhat of a new and improved, and possibly a little heavier version of Antonio Margarito...minus the Plaster Of Paris hand wraps, of course.
