Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has admitted that his squad is not complete yet. Despite strengthening his team by signing Lucio, Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito and Thiago Motta, Mourinho believes that the Italian champions' squad still needs a playmaker.
Although Dejan Stankovic played well last season, the Serbian playmaker is certainly past his peak and Inter are actively looking to acquire a creative midfielder who can provide the link between the forward line and center midfield in Mourinho's diamond formation.
The media has already talked of several options that Inter are rumored to be interested in signing. Here are some of the possible candidates:
Raffael van der Vaart (Real Madrid)
The Dutch playmaker only arrived at Real Madrid last season from Hamburg. However, his first-team chances have been extremely limited. With the new arrivals at Real Madrid, van der Vaart has been deemed surplus to requirements at Santiago Bernabeu.
Van der Vaart has proven his abilities at Ajax as well as Hamburg where he was the star of the German team before moving to the Spanish capital to play with Real Madrid.
Wesley Sneijder (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid have not said that the Dutch playmaker is up for sale. Yet with plenty of excellent players arriving at Real Madrid, Sneijder's playing time might become limited.
Sneijder's creativity, passing, vision and technique might be what Inter are looking for. Sneijder is also an expert at set-pieces.
The Portuguese playmaker has already served under Jose Mourinho at Porto, where the duo won many accolades including Porto's surprising Champions League victory in 2004.
Deco enjoyed a good start at Chelsea last season, but injuries and a slump in form caused the Portuguese to fall down in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Although he turns 32 this month, Deco can be a very useful addition to Inter's squad as a playmaker is urgently needed by Mourinho.
Antonio Cassano (Sampdoria)
Cassano is one of the most talented Italian players in the Serie A. His Serie A and international experience along with his talent and creativity can be what Inter require to be transformed into a "complete team".
The only issue is Cassano's negative influence in the dressing rooms. But with Mourinho's no-nonsense policy, Cassano will not cause any trouble.
Cassano can be an excellent choice for Inter since he can serve as an attacking midfielder and a striker too which means he can really be of great benefit for Inter in case of injuries or bans.
