Urban Myer is a phenominal coach.  One of the top five in the nation.  But let's get something straight: Big Balls Pete is the best around, every program in the country wants to be USC.  Florida has to win a couple more SEC titles before we call them USC-south.  remember, sandwiched  between those two National Championships are a couple 9-4 seasons.  A down year for USC is 11-2 and a BCS bashing of any team of your choice.  A sport without a true playoff cannot be judged strictly on National Championships because a coach and team CANNOT COMPLETELY control winning a National Championship, but they can control Conference Dominance and BCS bids.  But those rings mean an awful dam lot. Myer is in the same class with Tressel, Mack, Stoops, and Saban, no doubt.  But he is not better.

I have heard some whispers that Myer is approaching Spurrier status in Florida.  No he isn't.  The dirrence between Notre Dame, USC vs. Florida is simple.  Schools like Notre dame and USC football prestige is so great, there football traditions always overshadow the current program.  At Florida Spurrier cast the shadow.  Urban Myer arrived in Gainsville with a  stockpile of Zook recruits, a Miami and Florida State programs on the decline, and Tennessee as well.  Spurrier won six SEC championships, not to mention four in a row while going head to head with a Juggarnaut Seminole program and Miami was a power with Butch Davis and Dennis Erickson. (minus those 3 probation years.) And Phillip Fulmer had the Vols rolling as well. Not to mention when Spurrier arrived at Florida, they had never posted a 10 win season in school history, never one an SEC championship, and coming of a big time probation plagued era. Again, Urban is great, maybe better than Spurrier, but not as big as Spurrier.

Remember it was the Ol' Ball Coach who began the big time contracts.  He was College footbals first 2 million and 3 million a year coach.  Spurrier brought the gators their First heisman, their second heisman, there first SEC title, their first national title, heck he named the stadium the Swamp.  " The swamp is a place that is hot, muggy, and dangerous.  Only gators come out alive".  Who could forget that brash comment.  But he backed it up and it is the cameron Indoor of college football. Spurrier, not carrol, was the first coach to have six straight ten win seasons, BEFORE the 12 game schedule.  Whenever Spurrier talks about the Gators, he often says we.  "We kinda turned them into runner-up U, huh?"  referring to Ohio St. after the gators beat them in the national championship game in basketball and football.  Could anybody else explain  how Spurrier gets a free pass for the Tebow debacle?  Why aren't gators blasting the blogs about the ol Ball Coach?  Because he is one of them.  Urban is a great coach, worth every penny. But he will never be a Gator, he is the Keeper of the Swamp, a very important job.  Spurrier IS a Gator that once served as the keeper of the Swamp. The only game that Spurrier doesn't root for the Gators is when it's against the Gamecocks.  Make no mistake about it, if Spurrier truly wanted the Florida job again, there is no way the Gator Boosters would have allowed Foley not to make the hire.  remember, is he best known for the coach who hired Myer or the coach who hired Ron Zook?

spurrier was Florida's first Tim tebow.  He was Floridas first Urban Myer, He was the first in the ring of honor.  But Urban Myer is one hell of a coach!
