Virginia Tech opened summer practice today, and there have been some interesting developments.
According to hokiesports.com, Logan Thomas is taking snaps at quarterback, where the Hokies plan on using him.
There had been talk about Thomas being utilized in the "Wild Turkey" formation, but it was thought he would be used in the formation as a tight end, like Greg Boone. Thomas, like Boone, played quarterback in high school. He had success, throwing for over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also ran for over 800 yards and 11 touchdowns, while recording 80 tackles and four interceptions on defense.
By the way, Thomas achieved all of this in his senior season.
The coaching staff said earlier today that if Thomas does play, it will be in a variety of ways, including on special teams. Thomas is considered the Hokies top recruit, and I would be surprised if he sits out the season. Right now, he's considered to be the third string quarterback.
Kenny Lewis is injured once again, and will have to have surgery on his achilles', which he tore last season. How did this happen? Hokiesports.com says Lewis slipped in the shower.
This is just another freak injury to add to Lewis' list. The coaching staff says he will miss at least the first three or four games. Lewis missed time at the beginning of last season because of a torn labrum in his shoulder, and then tore his achilles' mid-season.
Stay tuned for more updates, as the Hokies are less than a month away from kickoff.
