Glasgow Rangers look set to continue the Scottish Football Renaissance after desposing German champions Vfb Stuttgart.

After Celtic's dismal performance in Ukraine on Tuesday night, one had to wonder if the Scottish football bubble had burst. Celtic lost 2-0 to Shakhtar Donestk, conceding both goals within the first 10 minutes.

Rangers, though, came storming back from a goal down at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow to beat Stuttgart 2-1.

Mario Gomez gave Stuttgart an early second-half lead while Rangers captain Barry Ferguson was receiving treatment for a head wound. To their credit, Rangers replied almost immediately, with right back Alan Hutton beating four players before slipping a pass to Charlie Adam, who calmly beat his marker and curled the ball past a diving keeper.

It was Hutton again who set up the Rangers winner when he was brought down in the box by Stuttgart captain Fernando Meira. Jean-Claude Darcheville stepped in to give Rangers all three points.

It was inspiring to see the fighting spirit of a Scottish team determined to improve the reputation of Scottish Football. The three points were a must for Rangers, who now face a serious test against Lyon of France.

At least half of Glasgow seems to be on firm footing. For one Scottish side to make the final 16 would be a success—two would be nothing less than the dawning of a new era.
