The following is a list of players who are primed for a breakout season and are ready to contribute in big ways to your fantasy team. It's seen every year, whether a youngster finally puts it all together and breaks out (Jameer Nelson, pre-injury) or gets the chance at consistent playing time (John Salmons).
Spencer Hawes, Sacramento Kings
Last year, the 21 year old seven footer started 51 games and averaged 11.4 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Those numbers came with just 29 minutes per game.
As the sure starter this year, expect those numbers to go up significantly. The beauty with Hawes is that he's a big man who hits some threes, he made forty of them last season.
2009 projected stats
17 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2apg, 2bpg, .5spg, 65 3-pointers made
Aaron Brooks, Houston Rockets
Brooks bursted onto the scene last year with a stellar playoff performance. The speedy point guard actually began puttiing up solid fantasy stats after the trade of Rafer Alston. With Yao being out for the season, Ron Artest leaving via free agency, and Tracy McGrady not expected back until around mid-season, Brooks will be counted on to provide a heavy scoring load.
Brooks may not be the prototypical pass first point guard, but will get a decent amount of assists and a great amount of scoring from the point guard situation.
2009 projected stats
18 ppg, 5.5 apg, 2.5 rpg, 1.5 spg, 150 3-pointers made
Anthony Randolph, Golden State Warriors
Randolph is a very popular breakout candidate this season after he outshined everyone at the Summer League, where he averaged 26.8 points and 8.5 rebounds to go along with 3 blocks and 2.2 steals.
There is no denying the huge amount of potential that Randolph has. Don Nelson's erratic rotation may be the only thing holding him back. Randolph averaged a double-double in the final month of last season.
2009 projected stats
14 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2bpg, 2 spg
Louis Williams, Philadelphia 76ers
Opportunity is knocking for Williams. With the departure of Andre Miller and only rookie Jrue Holliday to beat out, Williams looks like a sure thing for the majority of the minutes at point guard this season.
Williams has proven he can score, as he averaged 12.8 points in less than 24 minutes per game last season. The knock on Williams has been his decision making, and in order for him to really breakout, he's going to have to be smarter with the ball.
2009 projected stats
16 ppg, 6 apg, 2.5 rpg, 1.5 spg, 80 3-pointers made
Courtney Lee, New Jersey Nets
Lee doesn't really have much of a choice but to score this season. After being traded to the Nets for Vince Carter earlier this off-season, Lee joins a team with just one proven scorer in Devin Harris.
Lee is a solid defender which will ultimately help him stay on the floor. He has a sweet stroke and is an all out hustle type of player. Lee can score but his peripheral stats may not be all that impressive.
2009 projected stats
18 ppg, 2.5 apg, 3 rpg, 1.5 spg, 140 3-pointers made
